Thoughtful Spaces for Everyday Connection
About the Dog Runs
Our off-leash dog runs activate underused spaces directly on our retail centres, creating safe, well-designed environments residents and visitors (and their pets) can enjoy every day, all year long.
Each dog run transforms a previously inactive area into a purposeful green space. Designed with safety, comfort, and accessibility in mind, these privately managed publicly accessible off-leash spaces are part of Choice’s broader effort to create welcoming places for community.
We Looked at
the Data
When determining where to introduce our first dog runs, we started by examining community data—identifying neighbourhoods with high concentrations of dog ownership and limited access to enclosed outdoor spaces.
This insight helped us select locations where a dog run would have the most impact, creating an immediate benefit for local residents while strengthening the connection between people, pets, and place.

Building on Community Connection
Our dog runs build on the momentum of previous activations that bring neighbours together in meaningful ways. From the Redway Holiday Party to our HalloWOOF events in Barrie, and Leaside, Toronto, we’ve seen how thoughtfully designed spaces can spark interaction and foster social connection.
These activations help us better understand the unique communities we serve.
Placemaking in Action
The Dog Runs are one example of how we transform underutilized land into vibrant, community-oriented spaces. Each installation reflects our belief that well-designed environments—no matter how temporary—can inspire connection, enhance everyday experiences, and strengthen the communities we serve.
