Birdwatching at Creekside Patio
Birdwatching at Creekside Patio
May 12, 2026
Guests joined us for a guided bird walk through the Creekside wetlands just steps from the shopping centre. Taking place on Tuesday, May 12 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, this special event offered a chance to slow down, connect with nature, and experience one of the most active times of year for local wildlife.
May marks the peak of spring migration, when a wide variety of songbirds, shorebirds, and waterfowl pass through or return to the area. With the wetlands located just north of Creekside Shopping Centre, this spot provided a unique opportunity to observe wildlife in an accessible, community-oriented setting.
The walk was led by Nature Calgary, a volunteer-run organization dedicated to conservation, education, and fostering appreciation for the natural world. Guide Bernie Diebolt brought familiarity with the area and helped participants spot and identify birds and other wildlife along the route.
The experience began and ended at the Creekside Community Patio, conveniently located between Joso’s Play & Learn Centre and Chatters Hair Salon. From there, participants set out on a relaxed 90-minute walk through the wetlands, suitable for all experience levels.
Whether an avid birdwatcher or simply looking to enjoy a spring morning outdoors, this was a great opportunity to explore a growing natural space within the community.
