The Net-Zero Report details the Trust\u2019s approach to achieving net-zero emissions across its entire portfolio, including scope 1 and 2 emissions and scope 3 emissions from tenant energy use and development activities, by 2050. The release of the Net-Zero Report follows the validation of the Trust\u2019s greenhouse gas (\u201cGHG\u201d) emissions reduction targets by the <a href=\"https:\/\/sciencebasedtargets.org\/\">Science Based Targets initiative<\/a> (\u201cSBTi\u201d) earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs one of Canada\u2019s largest landlords and a long-term owner of real estate, we have an important role to play in addressing the greenhouse gas emissions that are contributing to climate change,\u201d said Rael Diamond, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Trust. Mr. Diamond added, \u201cOur Pathway to Net-Zero Report outlines our commitment and approach to achieving net-zero GHG emissions across our portfolio by 2050 and is a major step forward in our sustainability journey.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Net-Zero Report builds on the progress Choice Properties has made since issuing its first emissions reduction targets in 2019, including the following key achievements:<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Reducing same-asset scope 1, 2, and limited scope 3 emissions by 24% in the last three years from a 2019 baseline;<\/li>\n<li>Releasing the Trust\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.choicereit.ca\/news-releases\/choice-properties-reit-announces-green-financing-framework\/\">Green Financing Framework<\/a> and issuing $350 million of unsecured debentures in the Trust\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.choicereit.ca\/news-releases\/choice-properties-real-estate-investment-trust-announces-inaugural-green-bond-offering-with-the-issuance-of-350-million-of-series-q-senior-unsecured-debentures\/\">inaugural green bond offering<\/a> in November 2021;<\/li>\n<li>Owning over 30 million square feet of space certified under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usgbc.org\/leed\">LEED<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/bomacanada.ca\/bomabest\/\">BOMA BES<\/a>T as of the end of 2021;<\/li>\n<li>Becoming one of the first entities in Canada to establish ambitious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.choicereit.ca\/news-releases\/choice-properties-net-zero-greenhouse-gas-emissions-targets-validated-by-the-science-based-targets-initiative\/\">net-zero emission targets<\/a> which were validated by SBTi in July 2022;<\/li>\n<li>Achieving \u00ab\u00a0Prime Status\u00a0\u00bb by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.issgovernance.com\/esg\/ratings\/corporate-rating\/\">Institutional Shareholder Services<\/a> for its ESG Corporate Rating in July 2022;<\/li>\n<li>Submitting the Trust\u2019s first response to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdp.net\/en\">CDP<\/a> Climate Change Questionnaire in July 2022;<\/li>\n<li>Improving Choice Properties\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gresb.com\/nl-en\/\">GRESB<\/a> Standing Investment score to 82, an increase of 4 points from its 2021 score, and achieving a 4-star rating in October 2022; and<\/li>\n<li>Piloting GHG-reducing technologies including low-carbon concrete, geo-exchange and dual-fuel heating systems, and high-speed electric vehicle charging stations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-cpr-paragraph-core\">Choice Properties is committed to advancing its Environmental, Social and Governance (\u201cESG\u201d) program, and the issuance of the Net-Zero Report is a significant milestone in furthering the Trust\u2019s Fighting Climate Change ESG pillar.
